 Bluegrass Music  History of Bluegrass:       Bluegrass is made up of the following; American southern string band, Blues, Country, English, Irish, and Scottish traditions.  After World War two the Bluegrass music came out of the rural south even though the music dates back as far as 1930's. Bluegrass gets its name from a man named Bill Monroe's band 'The Bluegrass Boys'. During this time Bluegrass music was about issues prominent in everyday people, such as; religion. love, family, and home. These songs were typically upbeat and happy, but could turn to a darker side of things. Protest songs have even been created in the bluegrass style. Bluegrass was developed from the elements of Old-time music, Traditional Music of the Appalachian regions. The Roles that Gender Plays in Irish Traditional Music        In Ireland traditional music gender plays a huge role, for instance; a woman is less respected than a man, the music itself is unwilling to embrace change, and it is very gender bias towards change. The current instruments used in traditional Irish music are made for the large hands of men. The main priority of Irish traditional music is the music, the etiquette, and its tradition at the sacrifice of those involved, especially women. It is very hard as a woman to be accepted to play music, many times women are too intimidated and fall out of love with traditional Irish music.        A woman's role in Irish traditional music is much different than that of a man.  Music and Rituals of Scotland Background on Scottish Traditional Music:            The traditional music in Scotland was written  in three different languages; English, Gaelic, and Scot. The traditional music in Scotland was performed in different social contexts and range from intimate family situations to mass-mediated television and radio performances. The first period of traditional Scottish music dates back to the 1760s, where Scotland wanted to be separate from other countries like; England, Wales, and Ireland. Most of the music during this time period was performed as dance music and orally transmitted songs. Scotland in the 16th century created a reel type tune for dancing. This type of music was spread through England, Ireland, and throughout the world. This type of tune is a fast paced tune for dancing and was played in the split time signature.  Hello, My name is Lizzie Dobbins and I am a Sophomore at Converse University! I am majoring in Elementary Education. I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. I used to be so excited to come home after school and teach to my pretend students when I was younger. I made them fake name tags, printed out worksheets, and even graded them. I have always lived in Boiling Springs, South Carolina which is not too far from Converse. I live at home with my mom, dad, our two dogs, and two cats. We have two Daschunds and one is deaf. I trained her by using hand signals, which is pretty cool. I also have a boyfriend who I've been dating since I was a Sophomore in high school.
